Supporting Adaptive Athletes on the Trail

Description | In this workshop, you will explore strategies for creating an inclusive environment, learn about adaptive equipment, and understand the unique needs of para- & adaptive cyclists on the trail. This session is a guide on how to create a more accessible cycling community for cyclists with diverse abilities.

Presenter | Annijke Wade (she/her) is a Black, female, adaptive rider based in Monterey, California. She is the founder of Dirtbound Collective, an organization working to connect adaptive cyclists to off-road cycling events and activations.

Inclusive Event Design

with Grit Fest founder Beckie Irvin (she/her) & Executive Director Rachel Olzer (she/they)

Description | In this workshop, you will gain firsthand knowledge on overcoming challenges, embracing diversity, and creating events that resonate with and empower folks from marginalized backgrounds, especially trans, nonbinary, BIPOC, and disabled cyclists.

Presenters

Beckie Irvin (she/her) is a nonprofit consultant and the co-founder of Grit MTB Festival. She has extensive experience with creating inclusive communities for people in cycling. Beckie's work earned her inclusion in the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal's 2022 Fast 15 Class. She was also named one of the Top 100 Women of Impact in Arkansas by the Women's Foundation of Arkansas in 2023.

Rachel Olzer (she/they) is the executive director of All Bikes Welcome and Grit MTB Festival. They have 10+ years of experience with equity and inclusion in cycling and the outdoors. Rachel’s work to create inclusive community in Northwest Arkansas was recognized by Bicycling magazine as one of nine Riders of the Year in 2023.

Presenter | Representative Angelica Rubio (she/her) is a Latinx American politician who has served in the New Mexico House of Representatives from the 35th district since 2017. She is an avid cyclist who has worked on a myriad of issues related to human rights & the environment.

Off-Season, Pre-Season, & Everyday Bike Maintenance

Description | In this workshop, you will gain the essential skills of bike mechanics like: basic mountain bike anatomy; basic tools & equipment; routine maintenance procedures; troubleshooting & quick fixes. This session is for seasoned riders & newbies alike.

Presenter | Bethel “B” Steele (they/them) is a queer nonbinary rider based in Fort Collins, Colorado. B is the co-founder of Queer + Bikes, an organization working to build community for LGBTQ+ folks in northern Colorado. They are a professional bike mechanic and served as the official mechanic of Grit MTB Festival in 2022 and 2023.
